Master Gunnery Sergeant Michael A. Castillo
Marine Detachment Dam Neck
Master Gunnery Sergeant Castillo enlisted in the Marine Corps on 11 July 2005 from Greeley, Colorado, and reported to  Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for recruit training. He attended the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Intelligence Specialist Entry Course, Marine Detachment (MARDET) Dam Neck where he received the military occupation specialty Intelligence Specialist. 

Master Gunnery Sergeant Castillo served as an Intelligence Specialist for Command Element (CE) III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) G-2 from 2006 to 2009 during his first tour to Okinawa, Japan. In 2008 he deployed with Human Exploitation Team 8 in direct support to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. In 2009 he transferred to Camp Pendleton to serve with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 and deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.  

His Intelligence Chief assignments aboard Camp Pendleton include Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 with an 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) deployment in 2011. A brief tour with the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in 2016 and a deployment with Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 11th MEU from 2016 to 2017. He served as 3rd Marine Division G-2 Production and Analysis Chief from 2017 to 2019 during his second tour to Okinawa, Japan, and CE 31st MEU Intelligence Chief from 2022 to 2024 during his third tour to Okinawa, Japan.

His Intelligence Operations Chief assignments include 3rd Marine Division G-2 from 2019 to 2020 and CE III MEF G-2 from 2024 to 2025 during his second and third tours to Okinawa, Japan.

He completed one joint assignment serving as the CJ2 Targeting Chief in support of Combined Joint Task Force - OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE in 2019. Based in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait his team provided targeting support to tactical units in Iraq and Syria.

He completed two Training and Education Command assignments as a Marine Combat Instructor from 2012 to 2015 with Marine Combat Training Battalion (MCTB), School of Infantry - West (SOI-W) and as the Tactical Intelligence Officer Course Chief from 2020 to 2022 with MARDET Dam Neck, Marine Corps Intelligence Schools (MCIS). He is a certified Senior Instructor under the MCTB, SOI-W Program of Instruction (POI) and Master Instructor under the MARDET Dam Neck, MCIS POI.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Castillo currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor, MARDET Dam Neck, MCIS. 

His education accomplishments include graduating Class Leader in Career Course, Distinguished Graduate in Advanced School, Honor Graduate in Intelligence and Tactics Instructor - Chief's Course, and completing the MAGTF Intelligence Officer's Course as the first senior enlisted student. He is a graduate of the Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, class 24F, as the Flight Leader and winner of the Chief Master Sergeant Etchberger Team Award. He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Castillo's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (X2), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (X2), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (X5).
